[Root Healing] Unmet Needs

Over the weekend we drew pictures of our root chakras and spent some time trying to understand the messages they have for us. Today we're going to dig in a little deeper into our root chakra issues.  What needs do you have that are going unmet? What are your unmet needs? Part of living on this earth is having needs--and sometimes facing those needs going unmet, for one reason or another. Here are some needs we have that might be going unmet:  Food Water Shelter Adequate clothing Sleep Cleanliness Peace General financial security Feeling appreciated Feeling needed and wanted Feeling safe and protected Feeling loved We have both physical and emotional needs. When our needs are not met, we struggle.  Even if our needs ARE being met, if we don't FEEL like they are being met, we struggle. For example, take food. So often, people who grew up feeling a sense of food scarcity will continue to operate out of a food scarcity mindset even when they are adults and food is plentiful. This leads to overeating and weight gain. Even though food needs are now being met, the emotional trauma of food scarcity is still lodged in the root chakra, and the person still deals with the root chakra issue of unmet food needs.  When it comes to our needs, it's not just enough to have them met, we need to FEEL like they are being met. The root chakra is ALL about needs and making sure they are being met. So this week we are focusing on meeting our root chakra needs.  Root Chakra and Childhood

The root chakra is the first chakra to develop after birth. It is the chakra of the first year of life. And that early childhood time is a crucial one for our emotional and physical development!  But beyond that, understanding childhood is helpful in understanding how the root chakra works. Childhood is a time of limited perspective. I remember as a child, my mother worked at night, and every night when she had to go, I would cry and cry. I was sure she was never coming back. Spoiler alert: she always came back! But that feeling of insecurity lodged in my root chakra. As a parent now, I see it all the time. I take care of my kids, but that doesn't mean my kidsfeel taken care of. I make sure they are safe, but that doesn't always mean they feel safe. And really, perception is as bad as reality.  If we feel something to be true, it almost doesn't matter if it really is true or not. It doesn't matter if you were actually safe during your whole childhood--if you didn't feel safe, that's the important thing when it comes to the root chakra. Digging In to Unmet Needs What needs do you have, either from now or from childhood, that are going unmet? Or have you felt have gone unmet? How do these feelings of not-enough play into your life today?  Today is a day to start listing out and writing down the needs you have that you feel are not or have not been met. These are needs that can be currently being unmet, or needs that went unmet in childhood or even later in life. Needs that may be being met now, but that you still feel scarcity about. We'll work more with the list tomorrow.

[Root Healing] Drawing the Root

What does your root chakra look like? Ideally, root chakras look spherical and red, a healthy strong powerful red, not a dark sickly red or a pale sickly pink. Ideally, the circle of it is intact--no cracks, no dents or weird protrusions. Ideally the rootchakra is connected front to back, and has an inside and outside layer that rotate separately but in concert.  Ideally, the root chakra is located at the base of the spine, and is centered and aligned with the spine.  How is YOURS?

Connecting with your Root

This is something you can hire an energy worker to check out for you, but there are things you can do on your own as well. Your imagination is a powerful thing. Today you are invited to use your imagination to imagine your root chakra--without judgment. Just imagine it. Is it there? Can you imagine it at the base of your spine? What color is it?  Is it cracked?  Can you see if it has both an inside and an outside layer? Are they both looking clear and red and in good condition, or do they look gunky and sick?  Is the chakra spinning? Is it even round? Is it even there? Go ahead today and pull out a red pen or colored pencil (or marker, or crayon, or whatever you have on hand!). Just set a timer for 5 minutes and DRAW what you imagine your rootchakra looks like. What comes out on the paper?  How does it make you feel?  What emotions come up when you look at your picture? Keep your picture for now--we'll work on it some more tomorrow.
